There are three major things that can have catastrophic
affects on your health:
Violent trauma
Degenerative diseases
As for trauma, our government, schools, friends, family
and medical community do a pretty descent job of mandating our protection
into laws, educating us on dangers, and patching us up if we are unlucky
enough to fall victim to injury. It's the degenerative disease that
will be addressed here because this one is the easiest for you to
avoid and there is so much disinformation being served to the American
public via most all media:
Degenerative Diseases are almost all tied to what you eat , drink
and are exposed to in your daily life.
It's no secret that America is in a health crisis. The "western
diseases" like Heart Disease, Stroke, Cancer, Diabetes, Obesity,
Osteoporosis and Hypertension are all directly caused by the "western
diet". This situation has gotten so out of hand that economists
now estimate that over a trillion dollars are at stake to keep American's
eating just as they have been. American's spend over 15% of the US
GNP (Gross National Product) on health care yet we have way more health
problems than most developing nations! The cause of all this suffering
and death will go down in history as the biggest blunder in the evolution
of American life.
Drug companies, by and large, are not here to bring
health to the population but to scam them for vast amounts of money,
by treating the symptoms and not addressing the cause.
Our health care system continues
to buy into this methodology, which focuses on drugs and surgical
interventions instead of valuing your bodys innate ability to
heal when given proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, will ultimately
fail you.
Where, instead, is the debate about limiting unnecessary,
ineffective treatments and stopping fraud? Why is no one talking about
the fact that there are effective, inexpensive natural-based alternatives?
These are the discussions that could actually make
Americans healthier
but the fact of the matter is that
the Big Pharma Cartel has a supreme hold over our government, and
this is, most likely, why you do not see any discussions about these
very real, underlying problems -- and why the drug companies, not
you or your familys health, will be the primary beneficiaries
of the new health care reform.
As long as your focus is on drugs and surgical interventions,
you will never see the fundamental changes that are so desperately
needed. It can only be accomplished by a radical change in how you,
and how society as a whole, think about health.
The cause is:
The mass consumption of "animal products"
and sugar as food and drink. (the "western
diet")
Think for a moment - have you ever heard the term "animal
products" on television? radio? newspaper or magazine?
It's not likely that you have because reporters and journalists are
in fear of an Ohio (and at least 13 other states) food disparaging
law that opens them to liability for lost sales if they say anything
bad about a food or food group. On top of that a big chunk of their
advertising revenue comes from companies that benefit from our unhealthy
eating habits.
There is just too much money at stake for the "truth"
to get out in the mainstream media who rely on all the advertising
revenue from the big businesses that profit from the current way of
eating and the health problems that are an undeniable result. The
saddest part of this situation is that it is the poorest people that
suffer the most because the low cost foods and restaurants are dominated
by the most health damaging foods. Just visit the grocery store in
the poor areas and you will see that it's the animal based foods that
are always on sale and selections of "healthy" foods are
scarce. Visit the same grocery chain in a well to do neighborhood
and you will see much greater selection of the healthy food choices
and an entire "organic" produce section. The government
subsidizes the meat and dairy industries in a big way which makes
the products cheap. School lunch program moneys in public schools
are spent mostly on animal products. There has been a 1.8 billion-pound
increase in US cheese consumption between 1994 and 2003. Is there
any wonder why we have an epidemic of childhood obesity and disease?
A few years ago Phillip Morris (the worlds largest and most
profitable tobacco corporation) bought Kraft Foods. Kraft Foods is
the worlds second-largest food and beverage company (whose main
product is cheese) with 2005 net revenues of more than $34 billion.
Philip Morris/Altria is a company with a long history of addicting
new young customers to tobacco with promotional campaigns. They are
good at selling products that are bad for your health and they are
good at keeping the government from doing anything about it. Pushing
dairy products on the uninformed public is the next logical step for
this unethical company.
If you believe that our government has laws that protect
us - think again. Just this January (2010) "The Supreme Court
in a 5-4 ruling repealed campaign spending limits by corporations
so now there is even more chance that politicians will be bought and
paid for by special interests. "It is a major victory for big
oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful
interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown
out the voices of everyday Americans," Obama said. The ruling,
a defeat for Obama and supporters of campaign finance limits, is expected
to unleash a flood of money to be spent in this year's congressional
election and the 2012 presidential contest.
The science has been done and
published many times over that a well rounded plant based diet is
the "gold standard" for health but the word just does not
get out unless you go looking for it. Don't expect the media to bring
it to you, don't expect our government to tell you. There is too much
money at stake to keep you eating just as you are... the standard
"western diet". Sure doctor's say "eat a diet low in
saturated fats" but "low" by America's standards still
causes obesity, disease and poor health.
The correct amount of "animal
products" in your diet is ZERO. The correct amount of
added sugars is ZERO.
I know you have the idea that you need milk for strong
bones and teeth, and that you need meat as "high quality"
protein but these are just propaganda campaigns that the dairy industry
and meat industry have used despite the scientific data indicating
the opposite is true. You may have seen Dairy ads touting "3
glasses of milk a day" helps you loose weight or makes your bones
strong or digestion "regular". The real science tells the
story as well as common sense...mothers milk is designed by nature
for rapid growth and weight gain for the newborn (and anyone else
who consumes it). The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
recently sued the Dairy industry over the misleading weight loss ads
and won so the dairy industry must cease that line of advertising.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, the average American
consumes more than 550 pounds of dairy products annually! The current
annual consumption of sugar is 141 pounds per person, and 63 pounds
of that is high fructose corn syrup.
It is a betrayal by the medical community that neglects
to properly inform the public that it's the meat ,dairy and sugar
that are causing so many of the ailments afflicting them. The AMA's
official stand is that a plant based diet is too radical a change
and most people simply won't do it. In the mean time they continue
to practice medicine by pushing more expensive pills and surgery that
drive all too many to bankruptcy and/or an early grave. Are we really
so stupid that we wouldn't believe them if they took the public stance
that the scientific data is overwhelming and you should change to
a 100% plant based diet. How radical is cracking open a chest and
rearranging the arteries of the heart? Given a choice don't you think
you would choose changing the way you eat over having your chest sliced
open and pryed apart? Again there is too much money at stake and corporate
greed controls the policy. They have built huge heart and stroke wings
onto their hospitals, huge cancer treatment wards and support centers.
Huge pharmaceutical companies that control media advertising, nonprofit
boards, most study grants and lobbyist spending. They tell you it's
not your fault and "we have a pill for that".
A person who follows a totally plant based diet is called a VEGAN.
The term was coined by Donald Watson who at
the age of 34 started the first Vegan Society in Britain in 1944.
When interviewed at the age of 92 he was pleased to report that he
had lived thus far without resort to medication.
"Are
you crazy" you are probably thinking to yourself. A totally plant
based diet? No way!
The bottom line is that the rewards to your short and long term health
are so worth the relatively minor challenges of being a Vegan in Cincinnati.
As a Vegan, you eat from the 5 basic plant food groups of Fruits,
Nuts, Legumes, Vegetables and Grains. I can tell you from my 5years
as a Vegan (I'm now 53) that if you are willing to just put a little
bit of effort into meal preparation you will be very satisfied with
eating as a Vegan.
Meat production has been
deemed "unsustainable"
because it requires at least 10 times more resources per pound of
output than plant based food. If everyone alive today in the world
ate as we American's do now it would take many earth's to support
the animal agriculture industries. If all American's were Vegans,
the farmland we now use to grow feed for the farm animals would feed
all the starving people in the world. History will likely label the
last 100 years as the rise of animal food products and the next 50
years as the fall of animal food products. This sad state of being
has evolved because big corporations put profit before the health
of the people. We as a nation spend more per person on health care
but it's not working because it's not addressing the cause, only the
symptoms. Economists estimate that there is over a trillion dollars
at stake to keep America eating animal products. Don't expect our
government to do anything as most in government have deep ties to
those who are profiting from the current situation. The only questions
are how long will you wait before you wake up to what is going on
and how much longer will you continue to punish your body with the
wrong foods.
As you can see there are a lot of
great reasons to change to a plant based diet but still the number
one reason is for your own health. It's not that hard. There are many
other reasons to go Vegan to do with the environment and animal cruelty
on factory farms that I have not touched on here but are themselves
reasons enough to make the change to a plant based diet.
Here is a nice video that will introduce you to the
concept of being a Vegan and why it is so important that we adopt
it as our standard.
11:43
minute video "A Life Connected" Explains very well why
a plant based diet is best for you and the world.
